BEWARE: HISTORY MUST NOT REPEAT ITSELF

BEWARE: HISTORY MUST NOT REPEAT ITSELF
(Let us say no to the apostles of zoning)

Once again evil men are on the loose. They would stop at nothing to blot the face of positive change, especially when it will not put filthy lucre into private coffers. How long shall we thrive in ignorance, always letting those who trample on our common good enjoy a field day. They threaten that it is either zoning or nothing. Their arguments are down right stupid and without substance. Rather than come up with concrete dividends that Nigerians stand to benefit if their formula is adopted, they are busy ranting about agreements made in the dark past. Agreements that baffle logic and leave the electorate with nothing but poverty.

The most annoying aspect is the threats coming from their camp on daily basis. They threaten hell, brimstone and chaos if their selfish zoning agenda is not adhered to. The question is, what mark did the past presidents, forced upon our common psyche by the zoning arrangement, leave on the sands of history. Nothing but misery, wholesome deprivation and stunted development. It is sheer madness when a man does something exactly the same way it was done in the past and expects a different result. Our only response here is that it can no longer be business as usual. We are not going to live and allow history repeat itself.

Let us look back at history for it is the mirror through which we recognize the pattern of their subterfuges. It is a pattern that truncates and attempts to kill any ray of hope that ever came our way.

Murtala Muhammed was God sent to heal the wounds of the civil war. He came to rebuild the ruins of the carnage occasioned by the war. He did not however contend with those who feed fat on the ruins of war and chaos. Before he could make any difference he was cut short in mid trajectory and we mourned the death of a good man.

The towering image of Brigadier Tunde Idiagbo is still sharp in our memory. He was bent on sanitizing our society and making things work. But that was not to be because those that will not suffer change to thrive amongst us made sure he did not live to reflect on his positive deeds.

The pillar of sports in Africa and philanthropist extraordinary Alhaji Moshood Abiola is another case in point, he was a great man loved by all. He won a landslide victory upheld by even men from foreign lands. His victory was not only cancelled but he was annihilated like others before him that meant good for Nigeria.

Now, once again, we have a man that shares the same pedigree as the other greats cited earlier in the preceding paragraphs. His name is Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan. Have we ever stopped to ponder at the circumstances that brought him where he is today. We at Democratic Legacy Initiative see clearly the hands of deity at work in the life of a man. A man that divine destiny has brought our way like those others that came in the past like Meteors.

The difference is that unlike them, we will not allow this choosen one to fizzle out the same way others did. We can not keep quiet and let evil triumph over good as it did in the past. For once, let us stand up to be counted on the side of positive change.
